Darbar Trailer: Can Rajini still surprise us?

Ask any true Rajini fan and they will agree that it has been 20 years since the superstar has created something bigger or better than Pudiyappa.
Dave Nair says, and Darbar, at least going through the trailer, doesn't seem to come close to this 1999 benchmark film.

Because he says an actor is just as old as he plays on the screen. Who else is, but to prove that right.


At the court, this superstar plays a super coupe named Aditya Arunachalam, whom he describes as an "evil policeman" in his unsuspecting laughs.

Gone are the days when the heroes did a good job, followed the principles and taught the lesson. The new protagonists are rebellious with style and will stop at nothing.

Half of Rajinikanth's beards, cool glasses and Tamil versions have a tone that is hard to ignore. The Hindi version is actually a poor copy of Tamil where our hero shines in his element and kicks in the first frame.

She looks totally impressive and the trailer promises a lot of action sequences, which were missing in her recent films including Black.
In a number of scenes, you will be reminded of Alex Pandian, the ruthless and stylish policeman of the Mondro Mogam (1982), only because of which he gets more and more entertaining.

In this film, Sunnyvale Shetty plays the villain, her second start as a bad boy after Farhan Khan's Man Hunnah is yet to be seen how well he has come out. Because, in a Rajini movie, Villain will need to go the extra mile to match the style and physics of a superstar who hates it.

The dialogue, sadly, did not do justice to the actor. We have seen police films like Singham and Dabang, which have better corn on the court.

Ask any true Rajini fan and they will agree that it has been 20 years since the superstar produced much bigger or better than Padiyapa (1999). And courtesy, at least going through the trailer, doesn't seem to come close to this benchmark film.

Still, I'm hoping that director AR Margados has pulled a rabbit out of the hat in this movie.

There is a dialogue in Padayapa, which fixes Rajnikanth in the court.
